OvineBot

Ovine is a UK app that helps people understand what their clothes, food and household products are actually made of. To do that honestly, we read the public product pages of the brands and shops we write about, the same pages any shopper can open, and record the materials and certifications they publish.

How to recognise us

Every request we make carries this user agent:

OvineBot/1.0 (+https://ovinewithfaye.com/bot; support@ovinewithfaye.com)

We never pretend to be a browser and never disguise where the traffic comes from.

How we behave

• We read robots.txt first. A block naming OvineBot takes precedence over the wildcard block, and we honour it.
• We honour Crawl-delay. Without one, we leave at least 1.2 seconds between requests to the same shop.
• One request at a time per shop, in small chunks, resuming where we stopped rather than starting again.
• If a shop refuses us, we stop, wait longer, and try again later instead of hammering it.
• We fetch public product data only. No checkout, no accounts, no personal data.
