Faye on the shop page

When you're shopping online, Faye's O sits on the product page. Tap it and she reads the page for you.

Safari, with the app

In Safari on your iPhone, the extension comes with your Ovine membership. Tap the O and you get Faye's full analysis, the same as a scan: her letter, why, what's in it, the research, what it means for your household and kinder swaps.

Coming soon to the App Store

7 days free, then £19.99 a year. Everything included.

One email when Ovine is in the App Store. Nothing else.

Chrome, free

Sign in to the free Chrome extension and Faye shows the product's picture, her letter and what the product is. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc. For the reasons and the research behind the letter, there's the app.

About the browser warning

When you turn the extension on, your browser warns that it "can read and alter webpages you visit", including passwords and card numbers. That warning is real, and it is the same for every extension that can show something on a page, from password managers to ad blockers. It describes what extensions are able to do, not what this one does. Here is what Faye does.

She never reads what you type.

A page shows you words, like a description or an ingredients list, and holds what you type, like a password or a card number. Faye's code reads the words on the page and never reads what's typed into a field.

She skips the risky fields by name.

Password, card number and security code fields are named and excluded in her code. She's for product pages, so tap her there rather than at the checkout.

Nothing about you or the page is sent until you tap the O.

Before that, the extension only fetches Ovine's own list of the products and brands Faye knows. Nothing about you, your browsing or the page you're on.

When you tap, the product page is sent, and nothing you've typed.

The page's address and the words printed on it, such as the description, the ingredients and the composition, go to Faye with your sign-in, so she can grade the product. Never what you've typed into a field.

We're parents, and we built Ovine for our own family's shopping. We won't build something that quietly watches where you shop, and if Faye ever needs to work differently, we'll say so here first. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
